MY TRAVEL INSPIRED SAFARI NURSERY

May 19, 2017 by @VanessaRivers

Welcome to my new favorite room! I’ll be starting my 39th week of pregnancy tomorrow so it’s a good thing I finally finished the nursery this week! To be honest I put it off for so long because I was totally overwhelmed. There is so much to do to prepare for a new baby, along with a ton of emotions that come welling up. Will I be a good enough parent? Will I still be able to keep up with my work load and travel and have a life outside of motherhood? Am I really ready for this? At 34 I still don’t feel ready to be having my first child, but I guess some people never feel “ready.”

While contemplating this next stage in my life (that I have to admit I am both terrified and so excited for!), I started looking through old blog posts to remind myself of all the amazing places my husband and I have visited in the last few years. The trip that stuck out as one of my favorites was our first safari, in Tanzania, at Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti. I grew up on a farm in California where we had horses, cows, ducks, chickens, pigs, dogs, cats etc, so I love animals! This was my first trip to Africa and I was beyond excited to see all the wildlife – elephants, zebras, monkeys, lions and hippos, all frolicking in their natural habitat. So this trip became my inspiration for our safari nursery!

My friend Misha also recently visited the Giraffe Manor in Nairobi where giraffes come and stick their heads inside the windows to eat breakfast with you! This is pretty much the cutest thing I have ever seen, so this also inspired my safari nursery theme, and the travel dream to take our child there for his/her 5th or 6th birthday. I  had to make the nursery gender neutral because my husband is waiting to find out the sex when the baby is born. I could not bare to wait, and found out right away, so it has been very hard keeping it to myself all these months!

We are currently living in London (excited our little one is going to have a British and an American passport!), so I ordered almost everything in the nursery from John Lewis. My favorite pieces are the tan and white zebra rug, the 4ft tall giraffe stuffed animal and a piece of artwork that reads “You Are Our Greatest Adventure.” I can’t wait to take our little one on a safari in Africa and on many other great adventures around the world!

Love all of it! You will be such a great mother. How fun that your hubby is waiting to find out the gender! I would be terrible at keeping it a secret. You look stunning. Congrats to you both.
