LONDON | Drab To Fab Hair with Daniel Galvin Jr

January 28, 2016 by @VanessaRivers

Where in London do you go if you need to put the life back into your hair? Daniel Galvin Jr of course! Daniel is The Color King known in London for his unrivaled skills at taking your hair color from drab to fab. It is no wonder he has amassed a long list of devoted celebrity clients and that many women call him the most important man in their life. Sorry Daniel, I’m newly married but you now come in at a close second.

On top of being handsome and charming, Daniel is also fun, approachable, and fiercely dedicated to his clientele. One of his greatest joys in life (next to embarrassing his 15-year-old son with questions about girls) is making his clients happy.

“Women come in here thinking their hair can never be what they want. When they leave, they are grinning from ear to ear. And then they are a client for life. I get huge job-satisfaction from that.”

When I showed up at Daniel Galvin Jr last Friday, I have to admit I was very embarrassed of the way my hair looked. It had been 6 months since I had had a cut, color, or even a trim, and my hair was dry, frazzled, and dull. I was honestly scared they would take one look at me and send me back out the door with my dreadful locks flopping behind me. Instead, the top stylist, Fatima, welcomed me with a warm smile and sat me in a chair to discuss my cut. She told me she would try to keep my hair long and give me layers that would frame my face.

I was offered tea and lunch from Grace (California-inspired cuisine that can be ordered in salon and delivered to your chair), and within a few minutes Daniel appeared, introduced himself with a welcoming smile and asked what I envisioned for my color. I pulled a wrinkled photo of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley out of my purse and frowned at my bath-water-blonde reflection in the mirror. Seemingly sensing my deflated optimism, Daniel reassured me, “Don’t worry. We will have your hair looking fabulous again in no time,” and went on to speak with Fatima about my new cut so that he could perfectly place my highlights.

Daniel has created an amazing range of OrganicHead™ hair care products (available to US customers at Target) that are perfect for getting your hair back to healthy, glowing, and gorgeous. During my visit my hair was shampooed with the Detox & Purify Shampoo (with an amazing scalp massage!), and given a much needed steam treatment with the Argan Oil Detox Hair Mask. Now, almost a week later, my hair is still smooth and shiny, which is quite a feat considering how dry and damaged it was prior to my visit.

If you have children, you need to check out Dubble Trubble, an organic kids range (available nationwide through Target and Asda, and Ocado in England). Through the sales of Dubble Trubble, Daniel Galvin Jr supports the The Pince’s Trust, which helps children and young adults 13-30 years old, who are unemployed or struggling in school. I recommend trying the Cool Cucumber De-Tangle Spray, which is perfect to throw in you child’s after-school bag to get the tangles out after sports practice.

Daniel Galvin Jr teaches a “color as a cosmetic” philosophy to his staff with an emphasis on continuity and consistency. So if you can’t get in for a visit with The King himself, you can confidently book an appointment with one of his staff, knowing you will get a fabulous cut and color with anyone at the salon. The services are not cheap but worth every penny! I left my appointment with a new golden, glowing mane and a beaming smile on my face, convinced that if I could get my hair to look this good again, pretty much anything is possible.
