If you’re interested in luxury hotel reviews, unique surf destinations, finding fun, romantic places to visit with your partner, or family travel then you’ve come to the right place!

Hi, I’m Vanessa Rivers. I grew up on a ranch on the Central Coast of California and attended college at UC Santa Barbara, where I fell in love with surfing. Surfing led me around the world and it was on one of these trips that I decided to combine my love of the ocean and nature to create an eco-friendly swimwear line, SUMMERLOVE SWIM. I am currently based out of London, live part-time in California, and spend much of my time traveling, documenting my adventures here on Glitter&Mud.

I have visited 40 countries and specialize in surf, snow and luxury travel, working with top brands such as Gansevoort Hotel Group, Four Seasons Hotels, Mandarin Oriental, Nikki Beach and 1 Hotel Group, just to name a few. I am also the Co-Founder/Editor at We Are Travel Girls, a global female travel community and website created to share your travel stories, and I am a proud new mom to a little travel girl in the making called Sadie!

I lost my mom to cancer when I was twenty-five and this has significantly affected how I view my time on earth. She was my best friend and the person I looked up to the most in life. She, more than anyone, taught me to see the beauty in the world around me. She showed me, with the way she lived her life that, what makes a woman beautiful is her attitude towards the world. I miss her every single day, but I know she is with me always.

Life is short, so I try to have as much fun as possible, be kind to everyone I meet, and appreciate every day. I started Glitter&Mud to share my adventures and help people make the most of their travels. I don’t want to just take up space on this earth. I want to make a positive difference in the world, in as many ways as I can. I hope my stories inspire you to travel more, see the beauty in the world around you, laugh more, love more, and believe that anything is possible.

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…it’s learning to dance in the rain” -Unknown

“Remember the past, plan for the future, but live for today, because yesterday is gone and tomorrow may never come.” -St. Luke

“Travel makes you modest, you see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” -Gustave Flaubert

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” -Mark Twain

“If travel is like love, it is, in the end, mostly because it’s a heightened state of awareness, in which we are mindful, receptive, undimmed by familiarity and ready to be transformed. That is why the best trips, like the best love affairs, never really end.” -Pico Iyer

“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming – “WOW – What a Ride!” -Anon

My parents and I loved your father’s music when I was growing up. I live in Southern California and compete in bodybuilding and am no stranger to wearing bikinis on stage. I live less than a mile from the back and recently got into surfing and love that and the art of bodybuilding. I enjoy ocean scenery and anything that is coastal and warm. I appreciate the life I have and where I live.
