I love watching movies, but I use to rarely go to movie theaters because it was more comfortable to curl up at home on the couch in my pjs. Then I discovered luxury cinemas. My first experience with a high-end movie theatre was the Electric Cinema on Portobello RD in London. My boyfriend and I went on a date there in September and that’s where I fell in love with the luxury cinema concept. The walls and seats at Electric are plush red with gold trim, adding to the ambiance and opulent experience of being served food, wine and cocktails as you kick back in your private sofa or armchair. Like being at home, but better. We grabbed dinner at their diner next door (my kale quinoa salad was amazing!), then popped by the candy counter, before settling into our plush arm chairs to enjoy a glass of wine and a great movie. We left holding hands and talking about how happy we were with the entire experience. Perfect date night or a night out with friends or family.
Since September I have also gone to the The Lounge at ODEON Whitley’s, London’s modern version of the luxury cinema. I prefer the old world charm of Electric Cinema (and their lounge chairs are more comfortable) but The Lounge has several movie theatre rooms playing different movies each night, whereas Electric has just a single movie theatre room. In the US luxury cinemas seem to be popping up everywhere and now I understand why. The ticket price is about double the price of a regular movie theatre ticket but the experience you get for the money is more than worth it. I saw Rush at Cinepolis in Westlake in October and the whole experience was awesome. They have stadium seating and we sat in the top row, eating Zebra popcorn (must try!) and enjoying delicious cocktails. So if you’re still looking for that cool last minute present, a gift certificate to a luxury cinema will not disappoint.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS! xo, Vanessa
